I have found that bears of all types: Grizzlies, black bears, pandas, polar bears, you name it it - are excellent subjects for improving your observational drawing.

Bears are made of big shapes with sublte curves and details. Then of course, they have fur... all of which provides excellent practice of drawing fndamentals.

It is my assertion and experience that sketching strictly with pen & ink (without a pencil drawing underneath) will advance your drawing faster than anything I have tried.

It allows you to grow to be less precious with your sketches (perfectionism), more expressive with confident line and hatch work, while leveling-up your ability to observe and discern with your eyes.
